otispeppercorn Astounding sound design on this album. I've never heard jangly metal bits and whooshing water make such an engaging rhythm section. The hooks on this album are on FIRE. Favorite track: Let It Groh.

jayquanrightious perfect douchebag pop that I love despite itself, good tracks Favorite track: Sumac.

Mr. Dupeep Hot Pop strikes the same worldly wondrous sounds that Disney's most classic soundtracks have but, blend it into Groh's idea of what is catchy pop. It ends up sounding very catching and often times beautiful Favorite track: Bleach White Light.

Luck Dragon Can't get enough of these lyrics. Inspired, thoughtful artistry in every song. Favorite track: Sumac.

Let It Groh 04:08
Veins are taut, warm blood hot, I don't know how to lose Ain't it uncanny, we're blood like family until the imminent bruise? Well you only love when I begin to let go Is there something that I need to know? Love ain't got no rivals You only yearn when I start to unlearn Hands up and the height returns I leave here, smiling in departures Come home crying in arrivals I lost myself Livid glow, lungs slow motion, a scene in cinemascope On the cusp of reason, solstice of a brand new season Until the orbit is broke Well you only love when I begin to let go Is there something that I need to know? Love ain't got no rivals You only yearn when I start to unlearn Hands up and the height returns I leave here, smiling in departures Come home crying in arrivals I lost myself

Baby we’ve been in decline For a nondescript time, don’t pretend it ain’t true How unfortunate that I, in reclaiming my life Have been hurting you Pull the curtain, tear the set apart I only see you in the new moon dark I’ve been waiting on the maiden to emerge Like I ain’t never seen no movie star Fucking you feels so lonesome Rogue river that I shouldn’t have gone down I subtract and I find my own sum I swear I get reborn Every hour I don’t hear about the bridal shower Two visions of you One as your mother and the other brand new How come every man from here to Kazakhstan Already knows about you If I’d spent most of my life trying to be somebody’s wife I’d get turned around too I hear a warbler, a night-time lark I hear a wurlitzer crying in the dark Night blooms, smell a new perfume Door slams, no interview Fucking you feels so lonesome Rogue river that I shouldn’t have gone down I subtract and I find my own sum I swear I get reborn Every hour I don’t hear about the baby shower Two visions of you One as your mother and the other brand new

Sumac 03:46
Riding on a contingent wave If it hits its harrowing Found still in my hundred will But I’m always saying always One light dancing, one light dithers Wonder how I’ll do if I do without you Your hue, cerulean blue You’re crying but you’re laughing New fog in the dialogue Like, “You’ve changed.” “Have I?” “Goodnight.” One light dancing, one light dithers Wonder how I’ll do if I do without you 1 light 2 is it right to 3 4give her All my vision, premonition Can’t say how I’ll do if I do without you

In the bleach white light Or the starkest dark I run And every day is irrevocably strange somehow A subtle voice calls from a dark love, “My dove, can you hear me now?” In the sleep-walked halls I am after all Awake When the dark prevails And the midnight veil un-breaks And every day is irrevocably strange somehow A subtle voice calls from a dark love, “My dove, can you hear me now?” In the semblance of the andromeda I pray When my doubt has peaked And my brother falls away Still every day is irrevocably strange somehow A subtle voice calls from a dark love, “My dove, can you hear me now?”

about

During the making of Ocelot (last full-length album), the engineer, musicians and I pushed our personal limits for two years, discovering new sounds, and flipping the songs on their heads.

I learned so much in those two years of constant exploration, that I was able to step away and make Hot Pop in a month.

Hot Pop is the result of a lot of dancing and reflection (neither is more important than the other).

The artwork is a collaboration between myself and Brothers Design Co, featuring completely in-camera design (and some birds I sculpted out of wool). Photographed on medium format film by Juan Solorzano.
